The Sound of Music

Trapp Family Lodge Trapp Family Lodge It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the death of our legendary pianist John Cassel on September 17, 2014. John has been a part of our family here for over thirty years, and touched countless lives with his music, his energy, and his generous spirit. His ability to connect with guests and remember their favorite songs made him a part of the fabric of the Trapp Family Lodge. John's larger-than-life personality went beyond his role as a composer and musician, and he will be sorely missed by all of us. Our thoughts go out to John's wife Becky and all of the musicians with whom he has made magic over the years." Sincerely, Sam von Trapp

Lindsay Downey Lindsay Downey After coming to Trapps for the last 23 years, since I was four months old, seeing John play in the lounge every night was undoubtedly one of my favorite parts of the trip. John touched mine and my family's heart through his music, brilliance, and compassion. I will always remember sitting at the piano with John year after year in amazement while he glided effortlessly across the keys. My thoughts and prayers go out to Becky and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

Dennis Bishop Dennis Bishop John loved to play autumn leaves. We tried stumping him on our visit to no avail. It didn't matter if there were just a few around or a crowd. On the way out, he had noticed my USMC hat and played the marine hymn as we left. Semper Fi John & may the wind always be at your back and the road rise to meet you.
