Advent high above the city's rooftops

A charming Advent market will be held high above the city's rooftops in the courtyard of Hohensalzburg Fortress. Whether you arrive on foot or by funicular – it affords a stunning view of Salzburg and its Christmas decorations. Countless market booths and a colorful entertainment program transform the medieval castle courtyard into an enchanting marketplace offering local handicrafts, exceptional gift ideas and culinary delicacies. Children will have fun making their own apple-men, straw stars, ice flowers, angels, gift tags and many other objects. Brass concerts and dance music add to the festive spirit of the season. The traditional "Christ Child Salute" by the Armed Fortress Guild will take place at noon on December 24.

A hidden pre-Christmas haven

A small, pre-Christmas haven is tucked between the buildings in the Sterngarten between Getreidegasse and Griesgasse: the "Stern Advent Markt“. Far from the hustle and bustle, the market's unparalleled charm invites visitors to stroll along its booths. For the tenth time, traditional handicrafts can be admired and purchased in the artistic setting. In addition to art and handicrafts, an attractive entertainment program adds to the pre-Christmas spirit.
One of the traditional market's special features: proceeds are personally donated to the needy.
