INITIATIVE ARCHITEKTUR salzburg was established in 1993 to actively address the topic of contemporary architecture in the Salzburg region. The association is primarily concerned with promoting building culture on many different levels. Critical opinions on current themes have played an integral part in the association's identity from the very beginning.
In 1996 INITIATIVE ARCHITEKTUR salzburg joined forces with other architectural institutions and associations in the other Austrian states with the goal to encourage people to develop an interest in architecture and make them discriminating partners in designing our structural environment.

- Encounters with modern architecture through tours, lectures, symposiums, films and excursions
- Public relations for a contemporary building culture
- Organization and handling of architecture awards
- Support for research papers on the topic of housing
- Providing a forum for public discussions on current themes in urban development
