DAS KINO, the only cinematheque in Salzburg, has presented an exclusive film program apart from the mainstream since it was established on July 6, 1978. Film has become a cultural vehicle, an artistic form of expression emphasizing quality and cultural diversity at DAS KINO.
In addition to European productions, DAS KINO also shows films from Asia, Africa and Latin America - the original versions with subtitles whenever possible.
Its film series focus on content and themes, offering retrospectives and films that made history (silent movies, classic films, famous directors) as well as documentaries or festivals, concerts, readings and lectures. The people in charge at DAS KINO see encounters, talks and discussions with directors and artists as well as the promotion of local and Austrian films, the cooperation with the European media program and international film institutes as their main scope of responsibility.
