Jazzit:Musik:Club Salzburg
Information
Events
The "Jazzit - Jazz at the Theater" culture club has held regular concerts under the rubric of the jazz genre at various venues in Salzburg since 1981 featuring stars such as Lester Bowie, David Murray, Henry Threadgill, Cecil Taylor, Steve Coleman, Marc Ribot, Moodog and Louis Sclavis. It finally found its own event location at Elisabethstrasse 11, in the basement of the former Austrian Communist Party's "Volxheim" at the end of 2001. After completing the renovations, the Jazzit:Musik:Club Salzburg was opened in February 2002.
Concerts are held in the large event hall once a week. The music offered runs the gamut from jazz to avant-garde, improvised, electronic and New Music to world music, tango, Klezmer & Co. Both national and international musicians can be heard, talented newcomers and well-known acts.
The Jazzit:Bar, a separate bar adjoining the club, also holds jam sessions every Tuesday (free admission). The Jazzit is a popular venue for the alternative scene, for young and old, a place where visitors can talk in a casual atmosphere, enjoy their drinks and listen to good music.
Meanwhile the Jazzit has become a fixture in the regional and national culture scene for music fans and musicians alike. It is a venue with regular jazz, avant-garde and electronic music concerts as well as jam sessions. It promotes young talent and has its own CD label, the Jazzit:Edition. The club's maxim is not to stand still but to keep developing and to be open towards new, innovative and experimental ideas.
