Mozart Week
January 21 - 30, 2011
Mozart Week is organized by the International Mozarteum Foundation each January around Mozart's birthday, offering opera productions as well as orchestral, chamber music and soloist concerts. World-renowned Mozart conductors such as Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Andràs Schiff or Marc Minkowski, orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Musiciens du Louvre, Grenoble or the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, ensembles such as the Hagen Quartet or the Artemis Quartet and a variety of soloists are responsible for the festival's artistic reputation in Salzburg. Concerts are held in the Large Hall of the Mozarteum, at the House for Mozart, in the Large Festival Hall and at the Mozarteum University's Solitär.
Classical and modern music
Both classical and modern music are found on the Mozart Week program. Although always focused on Mozart, the contemporary pieces and concerts invite listeners to rediscover or hear familiar music by the genius loci from another angle. The Mozart Week program is just as likely to feature a debut performance by Pierre Boulez or Jörg Widmann as a great classical concert with Andràs Schiff or Daniel Barenboim. Numerous dialogs with the artists, introductory events and youth workshops enhance the listening experience. Visitors can acquire new insight and collect personal memories of individual celebrities in live discussions during Mozart Week in Salzburg.
International Mozarteum Foundation
Mozart Week is organized by the International Mozarteum Foundation. Founded in 1842 by Salzburg residents, the Foundation is a private, non-profit organization and responsible for preserving the Mozart legacy in three core fields: concerts, museums and research. Its properties include Mozart's Birthplace, the Mozart Residence, the Bibliotheca Mozartiana and the Large Hall in the Foundation's main building.
