Sommerszene
International Avantgarde-Festival
July 03 - 13, 2013
The sommerszene is often seen as an antipole to the Salzburg Festival. The event has in fact developed over the years to an internationally acclaimed festival unparalleled in Austria.
The concept
Szene Salzburg has stood for contemporary theater and music since the late 1960s. Originally intended as a platform for local artists, the Szene grew to become an international avant-garde festival during the 70s and 80s. The Szene functions as an international producer and offers residencies to national and international artists. The European apap network (advancing performing arts project) was founded to support young performing artists.
