SommerSzene
July 8 - July 17, 2010
The SommerSzene is often seen as an antipole to the Salzburg Festival. The event has in fact developed over the years to an internationally acclaimed festival unparalleled in Austria.
The 14-day festival focuses on the contemporary world of dance. Theater, music, film and visual arts supplement the SommerSzene program. The program is characterized by its transgression of boundaries, artistic risk, new presentation formats and a superior quality year after year.

The concept
Szene Salzburg has stood for contemporary theater and music since the late 1960s. Originally intended as a platform for local artists, the Szene grew to become an international avant-garde festival during the 70s and 80s. The Szene functions as an international producer and offers residencies to national and international artists. The European apap network (advancing performing arts project) was founded to support young performing artists.
