Winterfest
Nov 28, 2013 - Jan 06, 2014
To make Salzburg's Volksgarten what it once was: a venue for amazement, enjoyment and festivities. This was the idea behind the Winter Fest, enchanting the public during the pre-Christmas season since 2001 - as was Georg Daxner's passion for tents and the circus.
Inspired by his visits to renowned festivals in Europe, especially in France, his dream of establishing his own circus festival in Salzburg began to take shape. Thanks to his untiring dedication, high-profile circus groups have enriched Salzburg's cultural landscape during the Winterfest, creating the only contemporary circus festival in Austria.
A world of amazement
Georg Daxner demonstrates a special talent for finding special Circensian acts. Whether featuring Victoria Chaplin and Jean-Baptiste Thierrée, who created a world of surprises with their Le Cirque Invisible, or the Tiger Lillies Circus, whose bizarreness was unsurpassed, or La Famiglia Dimitri, a family play full of warmth, laughter and magic - the organizer succeeds in captivating the audience with a lovingly chosen show year after year.
The philosophy behind the Winterfest is simple: to offer something special during the hectic (pre-) Christmas season: time and leisure for an evening with friends, an evening to share wonderful stories over a good glass of wine and culinary delicacies.
Pure enjoyment
The festival has focused on art and cuisine in sync with interpersonal encounters since its debut in 2001. Spectators in the Volksgarten will continue to be mesmerized by spellbinding acrobatics, soft poetry and bizarre illusions in the years to come. The shows are not loud, not breakneck but unique, sensationally caring and candid.
