Nov 25, 2015 - Jan 06, 2016
The Winterfest in Salzburg has long since achieved international repute in the contemporary circus world. Only the very best circus troupes get to perform here, and this cultural event has now become the largest festival for modern circus artistry in the entire German-speaking area of Europe.
Every winter around 30,000 visitors are attracted to the big-tops in the Volksgarten where they enjoy a vast array of fascinating acrobatics, gentle poetic charm and crazy stories. The festival is fittingly accompanied by a fascinating programme of side events and a rich and varied array of culinary delights.
Winterfest programme for 2015
Cirque Le Roux fills the big top with its special blend of circus performances, comedy and cufflinks. The group will be performing a comedy about Miss Betty and her admirers. The plot reveals a web of secrets and develops in the style of an old black and white movie. Magmanus is a young and dynamic duo that tests the limits of balance and gravity.
After Christmas there’s the chance to enjoy Les Rois Vagabonds featuring two talented vagabonds who are masters of the arts of music and clowning, and or the more refined sense of humour there’s the wonderfully curious Bêtes de Foire.
As well as the increasing fascination encouraged by so many very special performing troupes from all over the world, in Salzburg there is an ever-growing eagerness to learn and perform examples of circus artistry: MOTA is here to put on a performance with the potential circus stars of tomorrow.
Once again this year the Spiegelzelt mirror tent will be a venue for concerts, dance evenings, cabaret shows, readings and now also for the showing of films. Discover this colourful and amusing world of events and enjoy all the skills and magic of the circus.
Philosophy behind the Winterfest
The philosophy behind the Winterfest is simple: to offer something special during the hectic (pre-) Christmas season: time and leisure for an evening with friends, an evening to share wonderful stories over a good glass of wine and culinary delicacies.
