Café Bazar
Information
Authors Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Stefan Zweig and Max Reinhardt enjoyed whiling away the hours at this cozy traditional Viennese-style café on the banks of the Salzach, close to the Staatsbrücke bridge. From the very beginning, a coffee house was also conceived as part of this building constructed in 1882. Its old wood paneling, big chandeliers and marble tables with cast-iron feet, still lend today’s café a very nostalgic flavor. The guests are every bit as diverse as the assortment of daily papers which are available to read. Salzburg locals gather to chat over an extended breakfast, business partners engage in energetic conversations, while tourists enjoy an atmosphere that is both stylish and uncomplicated. In addition to the house’s own coffee specialties and a fine selection of pastries, they are also able to quell those between-meal hunger pangs: truffle tortellini, Schinkenfleckerl
ham casserole au gratin and steak fillets, are all skillfully prepared and guaranteed to win over every guest.
In addition to the historic salon, the pretty terrace – with views across the river Salzach to the Old City, the Mönchsberg and Hohensalzburg Fortress – couldn’t be a more inviting place to unwind and enjoy some welcome refreshments.
