Schlosserei Wieber
Information
Far removed from the pragmatic surroundings of today’s utilitarian workshops, hidden behind the unassuming entrance of Getreidegasse No.28, a venerable building with a glass-roofed interior courtyard and marble plasterwork, you will find the traditional metalworking shop Wieber. The art of metalworking has been practiced here since 1415, a legacy to which father, Josef, and son, Christian Wieber, do masterful justice. Daily business is, of course, impacted by orders for today’s world – but the Wiebers are in especially high demand because of their deep-seated historic know-how, some of the fruits of which are on display in the passageway leading to the inner courtyard.
And here, even the little things receive great attention: Wieber repairs everything, from lampshades to kitchen equipment and grave decorations. And whenever Salzburg’s Old City is in need of skilled metalworking, it always knows in whose hands to place its trust: Sensitive restorations and creation of new pieces, all integrating perfectly into the city’s appearance, are as much a part of the program as is the manufacture of guild signs.
Opening hours:
Monday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Tuesday - Thursday 7.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Friday 7.30 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Saturday by prior arrangement.
