Schokoladen & Confiserie Holzermayr
Schokoladen & Confiserie Holzermayr
Information
Even as far back as 140 years ago, the special confections of Werfen native, Josef Holzermayr, were already captivating "sweet tooths", both young and old, at church fairs and farmers’ markets. Their enthusiasm was also shared by Archduke Franz Ferdinand, who appointed Holzermayr as a purveyor to the imperial court. So it was that Holzermayr was often spotted underway, pushing his handcart filled with delicious temptations in the direction of Hohenwerfen Castle.
“Chocolate for indulgence” was always the motto of the founder who, in addition to his business in Werfen, opened a new shop on the Alter Markt in Salzburg in 1913, an establishment now run by the fourth generation of his family. To this day, the shop’s interior sets a very nostalgic tone, with its old sugar dome together with a display case of chocolates and a traditional candy stand. The youngsters’ eyes will sparkle with glee in the “Kids’ Corner”, where they will discover some absolutely heavenly treats. Amongst the house specialties are the “Salzburger Mozartkugel”, created by Josef Holzermayr in 1890 from the finest nougat, pistachio-marzipan and dark chocolate, as well as the “Specialty Mozartkugel” for diabetics, which first appeared in 2004.
