Salzburger Heimatwerk
Salzburger Heimatwerk
Information
Events
Since 1946
Located beneath the Glockenspiel at the Neue Residenz – built between 1584 and 1601 – the Salzburg Folk Heritage Society (“Salzburger Heimatwerk”) first opened its doors to the public in 1946. As an organizer of cultural events and a commercial enterprise in its own right, its foremost goal is to promote the region's folk culture. This applies especially to the preservation, nurturing and on-going development of traditions handed down through the generations, particularly with regard to handicrafts, folk costume, traditions, music, song and dance, but also including diverse contemporary expressions of folk culture. Created in the workshop at the hands of master craftsmen
are unique, custom–tailored folk costumes, which reflect both tradition and the spirit of our modern times.
Superb block prints, fine hand-woven fabrics, silks, colorful prints and exquisite designer goods can also be purchased at the Heimatwerk, as can those original Salzburg bells that are so highly sought-after by collectors. The Salzburger Heimatwerk is also the organizer of the “Salzburg Advent Singing”, one of the most important cultural events of its kind in the entire Alpine region. Special exhibitions, changing from season to season, are also well worth a visit.
Opening hours:
Mon - Fri 9.00 am - 6.00 pm
