Baroque City of Salzburg
The city of Salzburg is a baroque jewel north of the Alps. Baroque churches and façades, parks and fountains were commissioned by the prince archbishops in the 17th and 18th centuries. Impressed by the luxurious splendor of the Papal States of Rome, the city of Salzburg was to blossom as well. The most famous architects of the time were called to Salzburg for this purpose. The baroque city of Salzburg is deservedly called the "Rome of the north". The impressive, magnificent buildings of the time still dominate Salzburg's ever-popular cityscape today.
