Information
The Austrian Romantic Trail
Like a 380km-long string of pearls the Austrian Romantic Trail connects the most beautiful landscapes of Austria. All along this trail from Salzburg to Vienna fantastic lakes and mountain panoramas and especially worthwhile villages can be visited. The Austrian Romantic Trail offers cultural and culinary journeys between Salzburg and Vienna.
The journey is the reward if you have a couple of days left for exploring the 400km-long trail by car. 30 historically important villages are thread like pearls onto a string and form a "Trail for all Senses". The varied landscapes, the cultural variety and the culinary highlights that can be enjoyed along the Austrian Romantic Trail are worthwhile.
Numerous traditional events, festivals, time-honoured cloisters, medieval town centres and the two world cultural heritage sites of Hallstatt and Wachau attract many visitors. In all seasons travellers get their money's worth. In the summer the Salzburg Festival is the main attraction, but also the apricot blossom in the Wachau region and Corpus Christi events in the Salzkammergut area make a journey along the theme trail already in springtime worthwhile.
The Austrian Romantic Trail offers many popular events: the Danube Festival in the Strudengau district, the Lehar Festival in Bad Ischl, the Gmunden Festival with concerts and readings, the Bach Festival in Salzburg, the Steyr Music Festival with open air concert or the Bruckner Days with organ recitals in St. Florian.
The entire trail is clearly marked by numerous road signs. A special map covers the entire trail and lists all sights in detail. The Austrian Romantic Trail offers cultural and culinary journeys between Salzburg and Vienna. It offers decelerated and pleasant travelling through one of the most beautiful regions of Austria. Guests discover historic and scenic highlights in selected villages. Only special partners earn the rating "Austrian Romantic Trail".
