Silent Night 200 – The Story. The Message. The Present.
In honor of the 200 year anniversary of “Silent Night”, Salzburg Museum will be hosting a special exhibition ”Silent Night 200 – History. Message. Present.” .
From September 29, 2018 until February 3, 2019, a special exhibition entitled “Silent Night 200 – History. Message. Present.” will be hosted in the baroque rooms of Salzburg Museum to mark the bicentennial anniversary of the Christmas classic, “Silent Night”.
In keeping with the six original verses of the song, the exhibition will be divided into six theme areas. Its goal is to present the musical aspects of the song and its dissemination, to share the biographies of its creators, and to discuss how it was also used as a tool for political purposes. The Salzburg Museum possesses original manuscripts, both from Mohr and Gruber. With these two valuable objects taking center stage, the story of this exhibition is developed with the help of other original items as well as spatial and audio installations. Visitors can look forward to experiencing the world of this hit song with all of their senses, a song which has touched every corner of the globe over the past 200 years. The “History Studio” is dedicated to additional topics, inviting school classes as well as individual visitors to participate.
Good to know: the special exhibition at Salzburg Museum is part of a decentralized provincial exhibition entitled “200 Years of Silent Night!”
Monday, December 31st, the Salzburg Museum is open!
