Fans of contemporary music are regularly able to indulge their passion at the Aspekte Salzburg Festival. The focus is on compositions by established Austrian and international artists, though up-and-coming stars of the music scene aren’t neglected in the slightest either.
The Aspekte Salzburg Festival was founded in 1977 and is held in alternating years. Dedicated to the works of Austrian and international composers of the 20th century, it provides audiences with a great opportunity to develop an appreciation for contemporary music and get to know young creative forces from Austria and around the world.
Since 2008, the festival series known as aspekteSPIELRÄUME has been offered especially for children and youth. Unlike the original festival, this young person’s version is hosted every year. Its main purpose is to provide motivation and support to young artists. The Aspekte “prima la musica” special prize was also created, with 3 winners chosen annually.
Composer in Residence is Johannes Maria Staud. The Tyrolean took up his professorship for composition at the Mozarteum University in autumn 2018 and is considered as one of the most successful Austrian composers of his generation. Six of his works should be listed in the aspekteFOKUS, including many chamber and ensemble works.
