9 – 20 October 2019
Born from the idea of making the City of Mozart a venue for first-class productions and concerts during the autumn as well, since its inception back in 1972 Salzburg Culture Days has occupied a permanent place in the cultural life of Salzburg.
Every year in October, the Salzburg Cultural Association hosts Culture Days, drawing together several cultural institutions over the course of 14 days. This musical festival doesn’t shy away from exciting mixtures or from serious themes. And so, we see hip-hop dancers performing to some of Broadway’s biggest musical hits, and famous actors giving literary readings accompanied by music.
The Salzburg Cultural Association was founded in 1947 as a way to bring culture to regular people. Today, it is one of the leading concert organizers in Salzburg, staging almost 30 concerts annually in the Grosses Festspielhaus, 10 concerts during Culture Days, and over 40 performances as part of Salzburg Street Theater. Add to that numerous lectures, concerts performed by their own orchestra, as well as concerts put on by apprentice musicians and school children. Since 2007, they also organize the so-called Children’s Festival, whose main goal is to playfully introduce children to classical music at the earliest age possible. Based on the population of Salzburg and its satellite communities, the Salzburg Cultural Association is the biggest concert organizer worldwide.
The Salzburg Cultural Society hosts the biggest festival of autumn season in the form of Salzburg Culture Days. The essence of the program is all about variety: a gathering of performers who represent a wide range of styles and sounds, both familiar and new. For example, in a concert aptly entitled “Best of Hollywood”, Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg presents famous film music and will be emceed by actor and German-Austrian TV legend Frank Hoffmann. On a similar note, physicians of Camerata Salzburg have found themselves a top-notch partner in the form of full-blooded musician and cult fig-ure Willi Resetarits. Finishing touches to the program will be added by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under conductor Paul Daniel, along with vocal ensembles and cathedral music.
