Salzburg for cyclists

The city of Salzburg has repeatedly been distinguished as the most bicycle-friendly city in Austria. The locals recognized the advantages of riding a bicycle in Mozart's city a long time ago. A fully-developed bicycle path network  leads cyclists in and around Salzburg. Over 170 kilometers of attractive cycle paths with 900 signs, 23 scenic bicycle routes through the city, 5,500 parking spaces and self-service stations offering free tools, bike stands, lubricating oil and compressed air for emergencies make Salzburg Austria's number 1 cycle city. The bicycle network encompasses the entire city; contra-flow cycling is possible in 83 one-way streets.

The fast and stress-free way to explore the city
See Salzburg from an entirely different perspective: the bicycle is an ideal way for adults or families to explore UNESCO's baroque World Heritage Site close up and stress-free. Separate bicycle lanes are available along countless roads; special underpasses for cyclists on both sides of the Salzach ensure that cyclists do not need to cross bridges and main roads. A bicycle garage for 350 bicycles (incl. 130 lockable bike boxes) is located at the local railway station (Südtiroler Platz). A number of bicycle-friendly hotels in all categories offer the complimentary use of their bicycles or inexpensive rental bikes.

Bicycle Excursions
Cyclists can ride along either side of the Salzach for kilometers or through the Hellbrunn avenue, closed to motor traffic, to Hellbrunn Palace with its famous trick fountains and adjacent zoo. Several bicycle routes lead into the immediate and distant environs. The Tauern Bike Path (175 kilometers) leads from Oberndorf along the Salzach to Hallein, Golling or Krimml; the Mozart Bike Path is 450 kilometers long and winds through the province of Salzburg and Bavaria. The Salzkammergut Bike Path offers picturesque views of 13 lakes over a distance of 345 kilometers.

The Salzburg Card is ideal for your stay in Salzburg: it offers free admission to all of the city's attractions, free use of public transport (incl. the fortress funicular, ship service and Untersberg cable car), attractive discounts for various cultural events and reductions at many excursion destinations.
