Café Tomaselli
In the Old Market in the heart of Salzburg lies Café Tomaselli, one of the most famous cafés in the world and the oldest coffee house in Austria. Owned by the same family for centuries, Austrian coffee house culture is experienced here in a stylish way with all the senses.
Café Tomaselli in the heart of Salzburg's old town is one of the most renowned European coffee houses. No other traditional café in Austria has such a long history. Even today, it is family-owned and represents more than 300 years of old Austrian coffee house tradition in a stylish manner. Magnificent wooden paneling with inlays adorns the walls, transporting guests, along with marble tables, silver trays, waiters in tuxedos, and “cake ladies,” to the “good old days.”
Long-established Salzburg families, business people, students, artists, and tourists meet here, just as actors, opera stars, and international festival celebrities do during the festival season. Back in the day, personalities such as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Max Reinhardt, or Herbert von Karajan frequented Tomaselli.
