Balkan Grill
Information
A unique sausage speciality set out from Salzburg on a culinary victory march that eventually led to it becoming an Austrian classic – though its origins are actually Bulgarian: the “Bosna”, a type of hot dog consisting of grilled pork bratwurst, onions, fresh parsley and a secret blend of spices, served between two slices of white bread.
It came to Salzburg more than 50 years ago. Once here, it was re-christened, since no one was ever able to remember the original Bulgarian name. Today, this small window shop, located in a building with a thoroughfare from the Getreidegasse to the “Horse Pond”, has developed a cult following. Austria’s “Gastronomic Pope”, Christoph Wagner, isn’t the only person to rave about this place. The customers represent a colorful mixture, while enthusiastic
recommendations for the Balkan Grill published in Far-Eastern travel guides, guarantee a busy influx of international visitors.
