Pure romance at Salzburg's highest Advent market

High above the rooftops of the Mozart city, the traditional Christmas market in the courtyard of Hohensalzburg Fortress is considered a true insider tip for locals and visitors alike. This year, the Fortress Advent shines again in full glory.

The walk to Hohensalzburg Fortress already promises pure romance: On the way up, more than a hundred traditional Herrnhuter stars transform the fortress street into a sea of lights. Upon arriving in the courtyard, the market offers a diverse selection of local crafts, creative gift ideas, and Salzburg delicacies.

Many Salzburg residents come to the fortress at least once a year to enjoy a cup of mulled wine while taking in the beautiful view over the beautifully lit old town during Christmas. Another highlight of the fortress Advent is the fresh Flammkuchen from the historic bakery. Here, modern recipes are baked in a centuries-old wood oven. The market's accompanying program is also popular with families.

Atmospheric tunes and Christmas sounds from the tower trumpeters in the courtyard
