Künstlerhaus Salzburg

The Künstlerhaus Salzburg is a centre for contemporary art and home to the Salzburger Kunstverein and other art initiatives. It houses a gallery, numerous studios, a shop and a bistro.

Salzburger Kunstverein

The Salzburger Kunstverein was founded in 1844 by Prince Archbishop Friedrich Schwarzenberg, representatives of the bourgeoisie and artists as one of the first institutions of this kind in Austria. The purpose of the Kunstverein was to promote and sell contemporary art from the countries of the Monarchy. Today, the Kunstverein sees itself as a central intermediary for international contemporary art, as well as a place of presentation and encounter.

Künstlerhaus Salzburg

Built in the typical style of the Gründerzeit, the Künstlerhaus Salzburg has been the home of the Salzburger Kunstverein since 1885. It offers 500 m² of exhibition space and more than 20 artists' studios. Admission to all exhibitions in the Künstlerhaus is free. A shop and the vegan-vegetarian bistro Tula are also available to visitors.

Other initiatives at the Künstlerhaus Salzburg

In order to take advantage of synergy effects, the Künstlerhaus Salzburg also hosts other art initiatives, such as the artists' group gold extra, the mediation group ARTgenossen, or the oenm - oesterreichisches ensemble für neue musik.
