Folk music and dancing at Heckentheater
The Hedge Theatre at Mirabell Gardens provides a unique backdrop for exquisite open-air performances. At festival time in the summer the stage at the venue attracts large crowds to see various events involving folklore and traditional customs.
The people of Salzburg love their traditional customs and culture. This becomes particularly clear in the summer, when several folklore groups and clubs that perform traditional customs become active in the historical part of the city. A unique stage known as the ‘Hedge Theatre’ was built in 1704 in Mirabell Gardens. After a colourful programme of local music and folk dancing, local dialects and everyday cultural life for the ‘heimat’-loving citizens of Salzburg take centre stage.
At 18.30, every Friday from mid-June to mid-August, locals and tourists alike are invited to enjoy the sounds and performances of members of the local culture association, such as ‘Heimatverein D'Enzianer" or the 'Lustigen Salzburger'. What’s more – admission is free!
