Hoffmanns Erzählungen (The Tales of Hoffmann)
The Salzburg Marionette Theatre is a „big“ theatre with „small“ actors. For more than 100 years, the puppets have enchanted grown-ups and children alike. The visitors are taken to a magical world of opera, fairy tale, or musical.
This fantastical and elaborately conceived opera in five acts by Jacques Offenbach revolves around the unfulfilled amorous encounters of Hoffmann. Three stories written by E. T. A. Hoffmann provide the basis for the piece: “The Sandman”, “Councilor Krespel” and “The Lost Reflection”. The protagonists of the various stories are identified in the opera with the author himself.
