Medieval Festival
Visitors can enjoy traditional crafts, fencing demonstrations and a colourful children's programme at the Medieval Festival at Hohensalzburg Fortress.
How did people work a thousand years ago? What tools were used to build Salzburg's landmark? And who were the craftsmen who worked in the fortress at that time? During the two-day Medieval Festival, visitors have the opportunity to experience many of the traditional crafts. Woodturners, papermakers, bricklayers, painters, blacksmiths, stonemasons, potters and beekeepers will be on hand to demonstrate their skills.
There will also be a colourful programme of activities for visitors of all ages. Visitors can test their skills in medieval games. From horseshoe throwing to walking on stilts, there will be lots of things that were fun 1,000 years ago. There will also be fencing demonstrations several times a day, a storyteller, puppeteers, two music groups and much more. Visitors will be able to enjoy the castle tavern and fortress restaurant with its historic rooms and fantastic panoramic views over the old town and mountains.
