Salzburg Advent Singing in the Large Festival Hall

The Salzburg Advent Singing at the Large Festival Hall is the flagship of Salzburg's Advent Singing events. Since 1946, audiences have been enchanted by old songs and music, alpine melodies and customs as well as scenic messages.

The history of the Salzburg Advent Singing at the Large Festival Hall

In 1946, the Salzburg singer and musician Tobias Reiser invited friends and fellow travellers for the first Christmas singing session. The event grew in popularity from year to year and moved to the Kaisersaal of the Salzburg Residenz in 1950, the Great Hall of the University in 1952 and the newly built Large Festival Hall in 1960, where it is still held today. Initially, the focus was on music and song, but later readings and theatre performances were added to the programme. The Salzburg Advent Festival at the Large Festival Hall attracts 36,000 visitors from 38 countries each year. With more than 150 musicians, actors and shepherd children, the Advent events are seen from a new perspective each year.

Programme 2024: "Faith, hope, love!”

In 2024, the three divine virtues of faith, hope and love and the Song of Songs from the Old Testament will be part of the Advent reflections at the Salzburg Advent Singing.

In German language. Duration of the performance: approx. 1.40 hours, no intermission.
