Summerscene - Marco da Silva Ferreira
Marco da Silva Ferreira, Carcaça, Dance
The exceptional Portuguese choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira opens Sommerszene 2024 with his energetic and virtuoso piece Carcaça.
Right from the start, the ten dancers and two musicians create a stirring atmosphere that captivates the audience and transforms the hall into a seething, vibrating collective. In Carcaça we encounter dance as a cultural practice that forms communities and creates an intuitive flow of movement. The dancers quote and process a variety of different movements, from traditional folk dances to elements of urban dance styles such as Waacking and Kuduro. Carcaça represents both an end and a new beginning, unleashing a determined movement into a future of community and freedom.
Marco da Silva Ferreira lives and works in Portugal. He has danced for Hofesh Shechter and since his first choreographies has developed a high-intensity style that challenges the dancer's physical strength and endurance. In Carcaça he takes this very physical style to a new level and explores the political and community-building potential of dance in a remarkable way.
