Tauernradweg

The Tauern cycle route offers all the beauty of Austria over a distance of around 300 km: mountains, lakes, rivers – and the cultural metropolis of Salzburg.

Through Salzburg on the Tauern cycle route

The UNESCO World Heritage town of Salzburg lies in the midst of Austria's most beautiful landscapes. Sporty and active people can easily combine a visit to the world-famous sights with the long-distance cycle route from the Hohe Tauern mountain range and enjoy the proximity of the town and the mountains up close.

The route at a glance

The Tauern cycle route begins in the Hohe Tauern National Park, where the Krimml waterfalls and Zeller See lake provide the first cool refreshment. It continues along the Salzach river to the Mozart town. Here you have a choice: either you return to Zell am See via Lofer or continue along the Salzach and the Inn rivers to Passau in Bavaria.

  • Krimml - Salzburg - Passau: 310 km
  • or Tauernradwegrunde (270 km): z.B. Salzburg - Bad Reichenhall - Lofer - Saalfelden - Zell am See (102 km) - Train journey to the starting point Krimml. Krimml - Bruck - Schwarzach - Golling - Salzburg (166 km)
