Fisch-Krieg

Fisch Krieg is located on Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz, in a heritage-protected architectural gem from the 1920s. The old-established fish restaurant with its garden is one of the most popular places for fish lovers from Austria and abroad.

Two become one

In 1926 the Town of Salzburg constructed the building and leased to two fishmongers. Hans Krieg first took over one of the original two shops in 1935. Six years later he also took over the second shop, thus converting it into one larger shop. In 1995, the founder's grandson renovated and modernised the old-established business, placing great importance on conserving the characteristic building. Even a special roof construction was developed to preserve the chestnut trees.

High-quality fish specialities

The days when fish was sold from tubs filled with ice are long gone. What has remained, however, is a high demand for quality. The saltwater fish comes mainly from the north-east Atlantic and, depending on the type of fish, also from the Mediterranean; the freshwater fish comes from Austria. The many regular customers, including a number of tourists, appreciate the quality on offer. In addition to the fish counter, the snack bar has also become an important element at Fisch Krieg. The owner's sister, who works exclusively with fresh fish, is in charge of the fresh preparation of all the dishes prepared daily.
