Brasserie Augustiner Bräu

At Augustiner Bräu Kloster Mülln in Salzburg, beer has been produced according to traditional brewing techniques and strict adherence to purity laws since the early 17th century. In other words, this is an opportunity to enjoy a delectable brew with a taste of history – in Austria’s biggest beer garden.

Preserving Authenticity

Augustiner Brauerei in Salzburg Mülln was founded by the Augustinian monks back in 1621. To this day, beer continues to be brewed according to a traditional recipe and, for the most part, by hand. In the brewhouse, only the best raw ingredients are used, without relying on preservatives and in compliance with the stringent criteria established by the so-called “Purity Laws”. Special features of the brewing process at Augustiner Bräu include uncovered cooling of the beer wort in the last remaining traditional cooling vessel in Austria as well as open fermentation.

A jewel of Salzburg beer culture

The beer produced at Augustiner Bräu is unmistakable in character and popular with beer lovers from around the world. In the cozy setting of the Bräustüberl or beneath the big chestnut trees of the beer garden, you are able to enjoy a fine brew in very traditional surroundings. Aside from the classic “Märzen”, their “Fastenbier” (Ash Wednesday until Easter) and “Bockbier” (November and December) are an absolute treat for the palate. Total production here amounts to around 13,000 hectoliters annually. Most of which flows directly from the wooden barrels into the steins of their guests.
