Since its founding in 1978, DAS KINO, Salzburg's only arthouse cinema, has been showing non-mainstream films, focusing on artistic quality and cultural diversity.

Besides Austrian and European works, DAS KINO presents productions from the US Independence scene as well as from Africa, Asia and Latin America. All films are shown in the original version with German subtitles. Film festivals and series with specific themes are regular features of the programme. In addition, DAS KINO organises encounters, conversations and discussions with film-makers.

DAS KINO supports the local and Austrian film scene, and its membership of Europa Cinemas – an association of European arthouse cinemas – emphasises the orientation towards European cinema.

Accessibility

The foyer and cinema room 1 are accessible without barriers. There is also technical support for people with visual and hearing impairments in screen 1. Screen 1 and foyer are barrierfree, screen 2 and first-floor foyer are not barrierfree (5-6 steps of 6.2 inches). One accompanying person free of charge, if noted in the disability pass.
