A little Jazz & Northern Lights

Together with the choral community Pro Vobis, the Mozart Choir Salzburg presents "A Little Jazz Mass" featuring jazz madrigals by Bob Chilcott and compositions by M. Hyökki, J. Mäntyjärvi, among others.

At the center of the evening is the work of the British star composer Bob Chilcott. With his “A Little Jazz Mass,” the former member of the King’s Singers created a highly effective setting of the Latin Missa brevis, which virtuously brings stylistic elements like swing and blues into the choral space. This highlight is complemented by Chilcott’s charming “Jazz Madrigals,” which wrap secular texts in a modern, jazzy guise.

As an atmospheric counterpart to Chilcott’s rhythmic vivacity, the choir takes the audience in the second part to the far north. Works by contemporary Scandinavian composers capture the vast landscape and the special light of Scandinavia and provide moments of tranquility and reflection with their ethereal sounds.
