The play "De Profundis" by Oscar Wilde is being performed at the Salzburg Festival in the Landestheater, directed by Oliver Reese with Jens Harzer in the lead role. The monologue offers a profound insight into the depths of Wilde's life and is at the same time a powerful attempt at artistic self-assertion. Oscar Wilde was convicted in 1895 for his unconventional lifestyle and his love for men. The letter he wrote from prison to Alfred "Bosie" Douglas, known as "De Profundis", is a poignant testament to Wilde's struggle against societal conventions and his unbroken spirit.
