Franz Schubert
With Franz Schubert's song cycle "Winterreise," the Odeïon Salzburg kicks off its new series "Odeïon klingt" on Friday, November 20, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. For the first time, the cultural and event center is taking on the role of organizer of a concert series itself. Thomas Stimmel (bass) will sing, accompanied on the piano by Liese Klahn.
Twenty-four songs based on poems by Wilhelm Müller tell in the "Winterreise" of a lonely wanderer who travels through a frozen winter landscape. Loss and longing shape his path. Schubert completed the cycle in 1827, a year before his death. To this day, it is considered one of the highlights of art song. In the Odeïon, the audience experiences the work in its original setting for voice and piano.
