Lilli Lehmann and Salzburg: A Tour for International Women's Day
On the occasion of International Women's Day, this tour highlights the work of the singer and educator Lilli Lehmann, who was one of the first women in Salzburg to direct Mozart's operas.
As an internationally acclaimed opera star and vocal pedagogue, she founded an influential school and advocated for the preservation of Mozart's cultural heritage against resistance. She advanced the construction of the Mozarteum building and secured the acquisition of Mozart's birthplace for the public. Based on original documents from her estate, the tour provides insights into her life and work. It shows how Lehmann, as a pioneer in a male-dominated era, achieved cultural milestones and continues to shape the International Mozarteum Foundation to this day.
