Robinson Crusoe by Jacques Offenbach
A charming comic opera based on Daniel Defoe's classic – full of musical wit and adventure. Experience Robinson's island dreams and his turbulent return to bourgeois life at the Salzburg State Theatre.
Jacques Offenbach's "Robinson Crusoe" is a charming comic opera in three acts that reinterprets Daniel Defoe's literary classic with humorous spirit. The story follows Robinson, a liftboy, who leaves his orderly life behind to seek adventure on an island. There he encounters the enchanting Friday, but reality soon catches up with him. Offenbach's music combines catchy melodies with social irony, creating an entertaining balance between comedy and seriousness. The production at the Salzburg Landestheater is directed by Christiane Lutz, who has already staged successful opera productions such as "Die Zauberflöte" and "Manon." The performance is musically led by Leslie Suganandarajah, who conducts the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. The set design and costumes are by Natascha Maraval and Dorothee Joisten, promising a contemporary and visually appealing realization. A discovery for lovers of Offenbach's humorous and musically rich world.
