The music genre Advent singing was born in Salzburg and is still an essential part of the pre-Christmas season in the city of Mozart. The Salzburg Shepherds' Advent in the University Aula is one of the most significant events of this traditional music form and enchants with folk music and shepherd children, celebrating an anniversary: for 20 years, the shepherd play has been performed in the Great University Aula!

Atmospheric Advent Music

The Salzburg Shepherds' Advent, under the dramatic direction of Elisabeth and Josef Radauer, unites authentic folk music with thought-provoking texts that correspond to the tradition of Tobi and Tobias Reiser. The family atmosphere and the captivating group of shepherd children touch the audience in an unparalleled way.

The Story of the Shepherds' Advent

Until 2017 known as Tobi Reiser's Advent Singing, the Salzburg Shepherds' Advent has its roots in the Advent singing at the Great Festival Hall. Companions of Tobi and Tobias Reiser decided in 2006 to move to the more intimate setting of the Great Hall of the University and focus there on traditional folk music. Today, around 6,000 visitors experience a small, fine Advent singing each year, which is regarded as the perfect prelude to the Christmas celebration.
