The musical genre of "Advent singing" was born in Salzburg and is still an indispensable part of the pre-Christmas period in the town of Mozart. The Salzburger HirtenAdvent in the University auditorium is one of the most important events of this traditional form of music and presents a charming performance with folk music and shepherd children.

Atmospheric Advent Music

The Salzburg Shepherds' Advent, under the dramatic direction of Elisabeth and Josef Radauer, combines authentic folk music with thought-provoking texts that correspond to the tradition of Tobi and Tobias Reiser. The family atmosphere and the enthusiastic group of shepherd children touch the audience in an incomparable way.

The Story of the Shepherds' Advent

Known until 2017 as Tobi Reiser's Advent Singing, the Salzburg Shepherds' Advent has its roots in the Advent singing at the Great Festival Hall. In 2006, companions of Tobi and Tobias Reiser decided to move to the more intimate setting of the Great Aula of the University and to focus there on traditional folk music. Today, around 6,000 visitors annually experience a small, fine Advent singing, which is considered the perfect prelude to the Christmas festival.
