St. George's Ride to the Fortress

Every year on the feast day of St. George in April, the so-called Georgiritt takes place to the fortress of Hohensalzburg. The citizens' guard and riders start their impressive march to the fortress at Kapitelplatz with their horses. Upon arrival in the courtyard of the castle, the annual blessing of the horses takes place.

09:45 AM: Start of the Patronage Mass in the St. George's Chapel
approximately 10 AM: Departure to Hohensalzburg Fortress
10:30 AM: Blessing of the horses in the courtyard of the castle (afterwards departure to the Kapitelplatz)

Participation in the blessing of the horses in the castle courtyard is free of charge. Entrance via the footpath is free; however, the ride on the fortress railway may require payment. No registration needed! The ride and blessing will only take place in good weather.
