New art project at Residenzplatz during the 2026 festival season: Installation by the internationally renowned artist Stephan Balkenhol. Figures from the opera world bring Residenzplatz and the splendid rooms of the Residenz to new life.

Balkenhol wants to bring the Residenzplatz back to life with figures from the world of opera through his project. They are intended to have a temporary physical impact on the daily life of the city and its people. Thus, the figures become citizens of the city and discuss universal human themes such as freedom, power, guilt, jealousy, and love.

Contemporary Art in the State Rooms

In parallel to the installation at the Residenzplatz, sculptures by Stephan Balkenhol from the theme of the opera world will be presented in the state rooms of the DomQuartiers.
