New art project at Residenzplatz during the 2026 festival season: Installation by the internationally renowned artist Stephan Balkenhol. Figures from the opera world bring Residenzplatz and the splendid rooms of the Residenz to new life.

Balkenhol wants to breathe new life into the Residenzplatz with his project, using figures from the world of opera. They are intended to blend as temporary physical effects into the everyday life of the city and its people. Thus, the figures become citizens of the city and discuss universal human themes such as freedom, power, guilt, jealousy, and love.

Contemporary Art in the State Rooms

Alongside the installation at the Residenzplatz, sculptures by Stephan Balkenhol from the theme of the world of opera will be presented in the state rooms of the DomQuartiers.
