The Banana
A turbulent comedy about greed, art, and a deadly banana. Luis' find leads the family into financial and emotional chaos – with a surprising finale.
In the black comedy "The Banana" by Benjamin Blaikner, Luis discovers a treasure of gold in the basement of his new apartment – and makes a fateful decision: Instead of securing his family's future, he purchases a provocative piece of conceptual art: a banana taped to the wall, created by a monkey. The purchase plunges his family into an existential crisis: His wife could have financed her artistic career with the treasure, and their daughter could have pursued her studies in the USA. When Luis falls in love with the artist, the conflict intensifies – his wife presents him with an ultimatum. In his despair, he eats the banana, even though he knows he is allergic to it. With Thomas Sturm, Julienne Pfeil, Theresia Amstler, and Simon Jaritz-Rudle, Blaikner stages an absurd tragicomedy about greed, art, and the question of what truly matters in life. A homage to real art scandals that encourages reflection on value and madness.
