Photography functions in the work of Ulrike Halmschlager as a fundamental building block, both as an imaging and a reproducing medium. She transforms motifs from the everyday world through fragmentary dissection into kaleidoscopic color spaces, which in turn serve as raw material for fabrics, interior design, and abstract painting. The image cycles that arise in this way become systems of mental and emotional charge.
