Viehhauser Krampus Run – Living Tradition in Advent

Every year around the end of November, an old figure deeply rooted in alpine tradition walks through the streets of Viehhausen near Wals-Siezenheim: the Krampus. During the Viehhauser Krampuslauf, organized by the Teufelsgraben-Pass, dark fellows with shaggy furs, fearsome masks, and heavy bells gather for an impressive traditional parade.

Especially for children, there is a ray of light in the darkness: The Saint Nicholas hands out small gifts and brings shining eyes, while the Krampuses keep a respectful distance. Culinary delights are also provided – with warming drinks and regional treats.
