From Vienna to Salzburg on Austrian Railways (ÖBB)
Since December 2015, it has been possible to travel by train from Vienna-Schwechat Airport to Salzburg without having to transfer. The trip takes three hours. If you prefer to travel in by (rental) car, you can also reckon with a three-hour drive. When you leave the airport, first take the A4 autobahn, then get on the A1, which will bring you straight to Salzburg.
Vienna Airport is located in Schwechat, a small community located 16 kilometers south-east of central Vienna. The airport offers connections by S-Bahn (the commuter rail system) as well as regional and long-distance trains operated by Austrian Railways (ÖBB). In addition, the City Airport Train (CAT) provides an express connection to the Vienna city center.
