DB – German Rail
Due to its proximity to the border, Salzburg's main railway station is owned not only by the ÖBB [Austrian Federal Railway] but also by Deutsche Bahn. This means that DB's national fares, including all the discounts, apply not only in Germany, but all the way to Salzburg.
Traveling to Salzburg with Deutsche Bahn is not only sustainable and eco-friendly – due to the high frequency and attractive discounts, it is a modern alternative to car and plane, even for distances like Berlin-Salzburg. Once there, it is worthwhile to stop by the Tourist Information directly at Salzburg Central Station. Here, visitors can obtain the Salzburg Card, which allows them to use the city's public transportation (except for the S-Bahn) for free.
The travel time from Munich Central Station to Salzburg Central Station takes between one and a half and two hours; at least 17 direct connections in long-distance travel and numerous connections via Munich are available every day.
Tip: As Salzburg is a border station, all offers & fares apply as in the national transport of Deutsche Bahn. Thanks to savings price offers, the BahnCard, the Germany Ticket, or the Bavaria Ticket, train customers also have many price advantages.
With the Savings Price Europe and the Super Savings Price Europe from Deutsche Bahn, travelers can travel from all over Germany to Salzburg starting at 19.99 euros. This offer is particularly attractive for families, as their own children under 15 years travel for free. Business travelers also benefit from the comfortable journey with internet access and onboard restaurant in the long-distance trains.
Owners of the new Germany Ticket (D-Ticket) can now conveniently travel with public transportation (excluding bus line 840) from Germany to Salzburg Central Station.
With the Bavaria Ticket, up to five travelers can use all local trains, transport associations, and almost all bus lines in Bavaria in one day. The ticket costs from 34 euros per person, plus ten euros for each additional traveler, and is also valid across borders with local trains to Salzburg Central Station.
