The experience before the experience

Fascinating, exciting, thrilling! – This is how your journey into the Hallstatt Period begins, with a ride on the Salzbergbahn panorama funicular up to the Hallstatt high valley. Once there, from the free-floating Skywalk you will be able to venture a look down on the historical town of Hallstatt 350 meters below your feet, as you will this entire World Heritage region. And immediately afterwards, you will immerse yourself in an era that lies far back in the history of humankind.

A pathway through time

Your pathway back in time leads you through the Hallstatt high valley, where, as of today, some 1500 grave sites have been brought to light. You will encounter one grave that you can even walk through, which, with the help of audio-guide information stations, reveals fascinating insights into the 7,000 years of Hallstatt culture and the production of salt.

Meet & Greet with the Man in Salt

From the miners’ house, a mine train now carries you along the rails into a mysterious tunnel, into the mighty heart of the Salzberg. Here you will encounter the legendary “Man in Salt”, who was found almost completely preserved about 300 years ago. Then you will enjoy an exciting ride down two slides, once used by the miners themselves, into the depths of the mountain, where you are greeted by a mystical salt lake.

Movie Time at the “Bronze Age Cinema”

In the Bronze Age Cinema, you will encounter a cavalcade of highlights, including the oldest wooden staircase in Europe, providing a perfect stage for the cinema itself. And then there are the actual stars of the show,  Udlo and his clan. The film, presented in 4K quality more than 400 meters below ground, also focuses on the hard daily life led by people back in the Bronze Age.
