Street Musicians

The City of Mozart is an inspiration for artists from all over the world and any musical genre. If a few rules are observed, many squares and alleys in the baroque old town can be used as a scenery for street music.

Music lovers from all over the world come to Salzburg. Not only in concert halls, but also in the squares of the city, a lot of music is played and sung. To ensure a pleasant coexistence, we ask you to observe the rules applicable in the city of Salzburg:

  • Larger groups, such as brass bands, may play with their entire instrumentation.
  • Individuals and smaller groups (up to 5 people) may not use drums, percussion instruments, saxophones, trumpets, and other very loud instruments.
  • In the same place, an organizer (of any type of music performance) may only perform once per day for a maximum of one hour (including any breaks). No amplification systems may be used.
  • The events must not be associated with begging.

Music may be played here:

  • Kapitelplatz Square  from the cathedral arches along the south front of the Cathedral to the start of the apse, within the yellow marked area, weekdays from 9 am to 9 pm, on Sundays and public holidays from 12:30 pm to 9 pm. During the time when events take place at the Cathedral Square or in the Cathedral (such as performances of "Jedermann" or church concerts), the holding of musical or similar artistic performances is prohibited.
