Street Musicians

The City of Mozart is an inspiration for artists from all over the world and any musical genre. If a few rules are observed, many squares and alleys in the baroque old town can be used as a scenery for street music.

People come from all over the world to hear music in Salzburg. Music and song can be heard not only in concert halls, but also in the streets and plazas. To ensure a pleasant and harmonious time for all, we ask that you respect the rules as they apply in Salzburg:

  • Large groups, such as brass bands, are allowed to play allinstruments.
  • Individuals and small groups are not allowed to use drums, saxophones, trumpets, or other very loud instruments.
  • Musicians are allowed only one performance of a maximum of one hour per day in the same place. Amplifiers are not permitted.
  • Performances may not be combined with beggary.

These are the places where musical performances are allowed:

  • Kapitelplatz: within the yellow lines alongside the cathedral. Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 9 pm, Sundays and public holidays 12:30 pm to 9 pm. Note: If performances of any kind are taking place on the Domplatz (e.g. "Jedermann") or in the cathedral, simultaneous street music is not allowed on the Kapitelplatz.
